A Delicious Luncheon,
Good Friends & BINGO - What a wonderful way to jump-start our new 2018-19 business year! Many thanks to Ann S. and her handy helpers who made this fantastic afternoon possible! And thanks to all the members & guests who helped make this day such a success! |
Our Speaker, Parker Filer, gave us a delightful presentation plus a variety of handouts which highlighted the numerous programs and events provided through the Tucson Village Farm (TVF). TVF is a working urban farm built by and for the youth of our community. This program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, is a "seed-to-table" program designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices.
In Addition, Mary Ann P. (our hostess), designed beautiful autumn center pieces and decorations for our tables and room which incorporated both flowers and vegetables freshly harvested from the Farm. |

Speaker - Sue Ritchie and the Author of Transformational Bereavement, (2nd. edition) - A Guide Through Grief and Mourning...
Sue Ritchie spoke about the intense grief she experienced after having lost two husbands and then realizing that after several years of near debilitating grieving, she had not yet begun to heal. Following this realization, she began searching for resources to help her cope with her losses and move on with her life. After a number of years researching and compiling information from a wide variety of sources, she realized that she had found many approaches that could assist in the healing process (especially for widows). She also felt that there was a real need for sharing this information with others who were suffering as she had. The information she gathered in her quest, is shared in her book which describes her journey and what she learned as she searched for answers. This is the story of how she was able to "nourish the (her) wounded spirit."

Linda Roy Cross, this month's speaker and author, entertained us with a wonderful slide show and some background stories surrounding her adventures while backpacking along the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.
At age 66, Lin walked alone across the 500 mile Camino, a 1,000-year-old pilgrimage, while facing real dangers and imagined death from high winds in the Pyrenees. Her journey included carrying a fully loaded 22 pound backpack and sleeping on bunk-beds in co-ed shelters holding from 12 to 120 pilgrims like herself. She has published her eventful pilgrimage an inspiring book: "Alone on the Camino." Lin and her husband, Randy Cross, have lived in the Catalina Foothills for many years surrounded by the spiritual and peaceful Sonoran Desert and are the proud parents of two grown sons. |
